Week #12! Woohoo!
No real theme to the remixes this week, just a couple of good ones that I’ve rediscovered recently. Hopefully you’ll like ’em!
Hey, Listen (Overworld, Temple of Time) – The Legend of Zelda, Ocarina of Time
ReMixer – Mattias Häggström Gerdt
Album – 25 Year Legend: A Legend of Zelda Indie Game Composer Tribute
This track has a nice mix of mellow, groovy, and harsh sounds. It starts out with some soft synths and some sharp drums, speeds up, finds a beat, and then builds to a drop.
It does a nice job overall, and I always love Gerdt’s bass synths and electric keyboard sounds.
Summer’s Dream (Epilogue) – Radical Dreamers
ReMixer – DrumUltimA
Album – Thieves of Fate: Radical Dreamers Remix Project
So for the soft track I picked a slightly more unusual genre … it’s a marimba solo.
And I like it. 🙂
There’s a really good mix of soft, thoughtful parts and some quicker, more complex sections. Lot’s of awesome variations and show-off-ness too (who knew that marimbas could be so cool?!). Oh, and did I mention it’s almost 8 minutes long?
Electric Spark (Spark Mandrill Stage) – Mega Man X
ReMixer – Sixto Sounds
Album – For Everlasting Peace: 25 Years of Mega Man
It’s pretty common for Mega Man tracks to be remixed in a hard rock style. And seeing as this is what Sixto Sounds does best … 🙂
While perhaps not the most well known Mega Man song (or game, for that matter), this is one really catchy track. But the best part about this remix? It’s about equal parts electric guitar and fiddle.
I love the back and forth there is with the two lead instruments … it gives the remix as a whole a great feel, having a slight country-ish tone because of the fiddle, but still retaining the rockin’ness of the electric.
Oh, and by the way … this whole album is actually available for purchase. So if you feel like supporting the guys who make great remixes like this a thing (and also thousands of free ones), please consider getting it! There’s a lot of other really good tracks on there as well. You can actually listen to all of them for free on Soundcloud first if you want to make sure it’s really something you’d enjoy (and yes, it’s legal … it’s the official OCRemix Soundcloud account that has them posted).
Well, that’s all for now! Thanks for listening, please like and comment below if you enjoyed the tracks! Again, suggestions and thoughts are always welcome!
