Weekly Special #1
Hey guys! So … first special, eh? How EXCITING!!!
To start us off, I decided to pick a couple of my more recent favorite ReMixes. Let’s get down to it!
The Narshemellow (Umaro) – Final Fantasy VI
ReMixer – XPRTNovice
Album – Final Fantasy VI: Balance and Ruin
I can still remember when I first heard this song. I was going through the Balance and Ruin album and having the time of my life (it’s a great album — you should really check it out! The overall quality is excellent, and I love what they did with a lot of the source tunes!).
Then this song started playing.
It immediately gets going with a nice funky, acoustic bass/guitar beat. The flute later makes me think of the Pink Panther theme song … I love this track!!!

Sunset at Mushroom Castle (Peach’s Castle N64) – Super Smash Bros. Series
ReMixer – Bernardo Limon
Album – Harmony of Heroes
There are a lot of Super Mario remixes out there. A lot. But this one does it really, really well. Think Super Mario meets Charlie Brown … and then I think you’ll get it. I especially love the way they mixed up the rhythm from the original to give it a nice, slow jazz sound.

Thunderstruck (Above Ground, Lost Woods, Windmill Hut) – The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
ReMixers – Big Giant Circles, some1namedjeff
Album – 25YEARLEGEND: A Legend of Zelda Indie Game Composer Tribute
I know I’ve shown this remix to people before … but it’s so … good …
While it starts off with an pseudo-8bit sound, it quickly transitions into a deep, electronic, beat-driven remix. I really love some of the “improvised” synth leads they came up with to go over the top … ahhh …
But really. What good are words at describing music? Just listen to it.
Seriously.

Listened! Quite good. ^_^ I was already familiar with Thunderstruck, but had not heard the other two. I liked the jazzy vibe they both exhibited, particularly the Peanuts-ish feel of the Mario one.
